LINEAR ALKYLBENZENE AND LINEAR ALKYLBENZENE SULFONATE
Linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS) is a component of laundry detergents and other cleaning products that was created to help put an end to foaming in rivers and streams. Because of its environmental safety, it is used by many companies and consumers around the world.

LAS has been the major surfactant used in detergents for more than forty years. Supporting this history of safe usage is a large database of environmental research that has been conducted on LAS. This environmental research, performed by top environmental scientists and research agencies, has investigated virtually every part of the environment that could be exposed to LAS. The studies have repeatedly proven LAS’s environmental acceptability and safety.

Because of LAS’s environmental safety, cleaning effectiveness and cost competitiveness, LAS continues to experience ever-increasing use around the world.

Linear alkylbenzene (LAB), the material used to produce LAS, is derived from petroleum bi-products–benzene and paraffins derived from kerosene. Extensive research is available to demonstrate the safety of the manufacture and use of LAB to produce LAS.
